Sabriye will be coming to Portland Oregon to teach two choreography workshops focusing on regional stylizations.
Saturday, October 7th
1-4pm
Mozza Masriya- ”Mozza Masriya” is an Iraqi and Egyptian medley of a pop song sung by Amina and Mohammed al Salim. Just like the song combines Iraqi and Egyptian music styles the choreography combines Iraqi with Egyptian moves. A fun and playful dance that can be done either as a group or solo.
Sunday, October 8th
1-4pm
Saidi with Tahtib- This saucy Saidi choreography is with a Tahtib (thick stick rather than cane) usually used by men. The masculine wielding of the Tahtib is countered with feminine and earthy moves. During the class Sabriye will also go into some of the background of the Saidi genre as well as share and draw from her experiences on stage in Egypt. The choreography is intended as a group dance of an even number of dancers but can easily be adapted as a solo. The song is Ammouna Fi al Said by Amani and Bassam Yazbek.
